Summary
To score an article, Pruuf sends it to our servers. We keep the articles people check, and use them to run and improve Pruuf. We don't sell data, we don't use advertising trackers, and we don't build a record of the sites you browse. An account is optional.
When you check an article
The extension decides on your device whether a page is a news article, using the page's own markup and publisher signals. Pages it doesn't consider news send nothing. On borderline pages, nothing is sent unless you click Analyze this.
On news articles, Pruuf checks automatically unless you have turned off Check articles automatically in settings. When an article is checked, the extension sends:
- The article's address (URL), which we also use to reuse an existing result instead of analyzing the same article twice.
- The article text: headline, byline and body, as extracted from the page.
- Language settings: the page's declared language and the language you read Pruuf in.
- An install ID: a random identifier created when the extension is installed. It isn't tied to your name or email, and is used for the free allowance and to keep the panel consistent between articles.
- Your account token, only if you are signed in.
Your IP address reaches our servers with any request, as it does with any website. See Free allowance and abuse limits for the one place we store it.
What stays on your device
The extension uses your browser's extension storage for:
- Recent results, in session storage that the browser clears when it closes, so revisiting an article is instant.
- Your install ID, your settings, your reading progress, and a list of domains Pruuf doesn't run on.
- Your sign-in session, if you sign in.
Removing the extension removes this data from your browser.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional and uses your Google account. It lets your allowance, plan, settings and reading progress follow you across browsers. When you sign in we receive and store:
- Your email address and an account ID from Google.
- Your settings, such as automatic checking and text size.
- Your reading progress: how many articles you've checked, your streak, and the first and most recent days you used Pruuf. We don't store a list of which articles you checked against your account.
- A daily count of analyses, for your allowance.
Pruuf Pro and payments
Pruuf Pro payments are handled by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers. We store your plan, subscription status, renewal date, and the Stripe customer and subscription IDs that link your account to it. Stripe's handling of your payment information is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
Free allowance and abuse limits
Free use is limited per day. For signed-in readers the count is kept against the account. For everyone else it is kept against the install ID.
To stop automated abuse, we also keep a daily request counter keyed by IP address. The record holds the address, a count and the time it resets, and is overwritten each day. We don't use it for anything else.
How we use article data
Articles and their results are stored without your name, email, account or install ID attached. We use them to:
- Serve results. A scored article is cached, so the next reader of the same article gets the result immediately.
- Check consistency. Facts established in earlier analyses are kept in a fact library, so new articles can be checked against them.
- Review quality. Low-confidence results are set aside for human review.
- Train Pruuf's own models. The article text, the research gathered for it and the resulting analysis are kept as training examples for the models that score articles.
News articles are published writing, and we treat them that way. What we don't keep is a connection between an article and the person who read it.
Content in the panel
The panel can include an extra item below the verdict, such as an explainer video or a sponsored message. Sponsored items are always labeled. Which item you see, if any, is chosen from your install ID, so it stays the same from one article to the next. If an item includes media hosted elsewhere, such as a video, loading it contacts that host under its own privacy policy.
Feedback
If you send feedback from inside the extension, we store your message, the article's URL and the time. Feedback isn't linked to your account or install ID, so please don't include personal details you don't want us to keep. Messages sent from our contact page are ordinary email.
Service providers
We use these companies to run Pruuf. They process data on our behalf, and article content isn't sent to them with your name, email or install ID.

We may change which AI providers we use as models improve. When that changes who receives article data, we'll update this list.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent data, or share it for advertising or profiling.
- We don't use cookies, advertising IDs or tracking pixels in the extension.
- We don't read or send pages that aren't checked, and we don't keep a history of the sites you visit.
- We don't attach the articles you check to your account, email or install ID.
Your choices
- Turn off automatic checking in the extension's settings. Pruuf will then only check articles you ask it to. Closing the panel while an article is being read turns this off too.
- Use Pruuf without an account. Everything except Pro works signed out.
- Sign out from the extension at any time. This removes the session from your browser.
- Cancel Pro from the billing portal linked in the extension.
- Ask us to delete your account data, or for a copy of it, by emailing privacy@truespire.ai from the address you signed in with.
Children
Pruuf isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has signed in, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Pruuf handles data, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
